Against the backdrop of global energy transition and the rise of renewable energy, the traditional petroleum industry is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. In this context, CNOOC has chosen to invest in new technologies while advancing the efficient utilization of resources and environmentally responsible development. The commencement of production at the Wenchang 9-7 oilfield exemplifies this strategic approach. In water depths of 120 metres, the field is developed via a new drilling and production platform tied back to existing infrastructure.
The Wenchang 9-7 oilfield development project represents China’s first offshore low-permeability reservoir developed with gas injection miscible flooding technology. This innovative approach has effectively addressed the challenges of low-permeability reservoir development while significantly enhancing recovery rates.
Concurrently, the company has established a comprehensive associated gas utilization network across the Wenchang oilfield cluster through pipeline interconnections, flare gas recovery, and waste heat utilization systems. This integrated solution enables efficient recycling of associated gas, achieving “zero flaring” at the Wenchang 9-7 oilfield.
Notably, the oilfield is equipped with the world’s first 5 MW offshore high-temperature flue gas ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) waste heat recovery system. The installation is projected to generate 40 million kWh of electricity annually while reducing CO₂ emissions by 33,000 metric tons per year.
The commissioning of Wenchang 9-7 oilfield not only marks a milestone for CNOOC, but also represents China’s firm stride in global oil and gas resource development. We look forward to witnessing more possibilities emerging from this project, while maintaining our commitment to achieving ecological harmony and sustainable development alongside economic benefits.
Our company is continuously committed to developing more efficient, compact, and cost-effective separation equipment while also focusing on environmentally friendly innovations. For example, our high-efficiency cyclone desander utilize advanced ceramic wear-resistant (or called, highly anti-erosion) materials, achieving a sand removal efficiency of up to 2 microns at 98%. This allows production water to be treated and directly re-injected into reservoirs, reducing marine environmental impact while enhancing oil-field productivity.
With advancing technology and growing environmental awareness, we are confident that more and more customers will choose our solutions and services.
