The correspondent was apprised officially by CNOOC on 31 August, that CNOOC completed efficiently an exploration of well drilling operation in a block located in the south China Sea closed to Hainan Island. On 20 August, the daily drilling length reached up to 2138 meters, creating a new record for a single day of offshore oil and gas wells drilling. This indicates a new breakthrough of speeding up drilling technologies for China’s offshore oil and gas well drilling.
Since the beginning of this year, it is the first time that the daily drilling length of drilling on offshore platform has surpassed the mile-stone of 2,000-meters, and the drilling records have been refreshed twice within one month in the sector of Hainan Yinggehai Basin. The gas well that showed the drilling record-breaking was designed to be over 3,600 meters in deep, with a maximum bottomhole temperature of 162 degrees Celsius, and it was required to drill through multiple stratums of formations of different stratigraphic age, along with abnormal formation pressure gradients of stratum and other unusual circumstances.
Mr. Haodong Chen, the general manager of the Engineering Technology & Operation Center of CNOOC Hainan Branch, presented: “On the basis of securing operation safety and quality of well construction, the offshore drilling team performed precised analysis and judgment for the geological conditions of the sector in advance, together with innovated operating tools and explored the potential capabilities of drilling equipment to promote the continuous improvement of drilling efficiency.”
CNOOC has been making greater efforts to promote the applications of digital intelligent technology in the field of accelerating offshore oil and gas well drilling. The offshore drilling technical team relies on the “drilling optimization system” which was developed by themselves, through which it can promptly review the historical data of varies sectors of oil and gas wells drilling and made more scientific and reasonable operational decisions for the complicated well conditions.
During the period of “14th Five-Year Plan”, CNOOC carry forward vigorously advanced the project of increasing oil and gas storage and production. The number of offshore drilling wells reached nearly 1,000 on yearly basis, which is about an increase of 40% compared with the “13th Five-Year Plan” period. Among the wells completed, the number of drilling wells of deep wells and ultra-deep wells, high temperature & pressure wells, and deep sea and other new types was twice that of the “13th Five-Year Plan” period. The overall efficiency of drilling and completion rose by 15%.
The picture shows the deep-sea drilling platform independently designed and built in China, and its operation capacity has reached the world’s advanced level. (CNOOC)
